Every time I go to Las Vegas, I visit the Downtown Fremont District area, so this time around, I decide it would be fun to stay there at the Golden Nugget. After all, this is where it all began. Prior to the strip, all of the gambling and action happened here. It is still an incredibly popular area full of hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping, activities and of course.. gambling! As soon as I arrived in Fremont, I was mesmerized by the bright lights that give you that true Las Vegas feeling. The Golden Nugget is in the center of it all and right underneath the world’s largest projection screen which is 90 feet above the ground and 1,500 feet in length. That is about the size of five football fields!
I stayed in the newly renovated Gold Tower which was close to everything in the hotel, so I did not have to walk far to get to the casino and restaurants. My room was extremely spacious with its own living room area, perfect to relax in when you want to take a rest after a busy day. The bed was extremely comfortable, as I just sank right into the ideal spot as soon as I laid down. Usually, it takes me a while to fall asleep, but I knocked out as soon as my head hit the pillow!
One of the main attractions of this hotel is the Shark Tank which in the center of the pool (yes, I said IN it!). This huge 200,000 gallon tank is filled with different types of sharks and fish. You can swim around it and if you swim under water, you even feel like you are swimming in the tank! There is also a 30 foot tall water slide that goes through it, so you see the sharks and fish as you fly down this exciting slide. You can also purchase tickets for a shark tank tour if you want to learn more about the sharks. After you are done “swimming with the sharks” you can go to the third floor to the Hideout Lounge which is only for adults 21+.
I had a blast on the water slide!!
Although, I didn’t have much of a smooth arrival coming down 😛
When you start to get hungry, there are 9 restaurants to choose from. I had a hard time deciding, but once I walked past Chart House and saw a 75,000 gallon tropical fish tank in the middle of the restaurant, I was sold! Seafood is also my favorite kind of cuisine so this was an absolute no-brainer. After devouring the delicious Hummus Trio, Mahi Mahi and Hot Chocolate Lava Cake that I had, I knew I made the perfect choice! Click to read my full restaurant review on –> Chart House!
I also spent a lot of time in the casino area which is huge, spanning throughout the hotel. It’s filled with every type of game you can think of from table games to machines. They even have craps lessons! If gambling isn’t your idea of fun, you can check out the Goldie Brown Show, treat yourself to a spa day, grab a drink at one of the bars or take a walk around the famous downtown strip, which is right outside the casino doors. Whatever your interests are, there is plenty to do both inside the hotel and in the Fremont area. No wonder The Golden Nugget was voted Best Downtown Hotel by the Las Vegas Review Journal!
** Thank you Golden Nugget Las Vegas for hosting us. As always, my opinions are my own.
