Costa Rica has an incredibly scenic coastline, so what better way to getting a birds eye view of it than sailing? I decided to go on a tour with Sea Bird Sailing Excursions while visiting Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. As soon as I got on board, the crew were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Unlimited snacks and drinks are available onboard, so of course the first thing I did was grab a glass of sangria, sit back and watch the views as we sailed along the coast. It was perfect! Eventually, I took a stroll around the boat and realized that there were hammocks towards the back, score! You can’t really beat relaxing in a hammock while sailing around Costa Rica, with a glass of sangria.
After sailing for a while, we pulled over to the area where we were going to snorkel. The last time I went snorkeling, I saw some fish, but not much else. On this tour, our captain snorkeled with the group and actually swam around looking for cool things to show us. Thanks to him, I got to see tons of fish, water snakes, starfish, oysters and even an octopus! It really added to the experience, because I know I would have never spotted all of these wonders on my own. We eventually went onto a beach on an island and walked around collecting seashells. I haven’t done that since I was a kid! I picked up some great authentic, free souvenirs for myself to remember my trip. Later we went back to the boat and continued our sailing back to the main Costa Rican shoreline.
Overall, I got to see some great sights, relaxed, had a blast snorkeling and finally got a tan! When I got back to my hotel, I received an email from the company with a link to a bunch of pictures taken through out the day from on the boat and during my time snorkeling. Now I have even more memories of my trip and I didn’t have to pay an extra fee for them, which was a really great touch.
The owner of the company has retired and is looking to sell the sailboat and venture onto new things. If you are looking to purchase it for yourself to enjoy and take on this tour company, this is the Craigslist advert which will give you more information on how to get this amazing sailboat; http://costarica.craigslist.
Thank you to Sea Bird Sailing Excursions for providing my stay. All opinions are, as always, my own.
