There are more than enough activities to fill your time while visiting Costa Rica, so much so that it can be a struggle trying to fit everything in that you really want to do. I found that Go Adventures combo tour really helped me get around these time constraints. What I particularly liked about their tours, is that they tend to combine adventurous activities with relaxing ones. The particular tour I went on had 8 separate activities that started off with the adventurous activities which were zip lining, rappelling, rock climbing, horseback riding and then white water rafting. I liked the order of the activities, because you almost feel rewarded with some relax time after you have taken part in the adventurous part of the tour.
I am a little petrified of heights, so most of these activities did intimidate me, however they are all things that I have wanted to try and I have never been one to back down from challenging myself, so I decided to just go with it and face my fears head on. I could have sat out of any that I felt uncomfortable doing, but I had to give it a shot!
The zip lining was an absolute blast, as I flew over rivers and trees with fabulous scenic views. My initial fear was quickly overtaken by adrenaline and excitement, as I hurtled through the air. Next up was Rappelling, which I have to say made me extremely nervous, but once I was actually hanging and started rappelling down the wall, I just went with it and had a lot of fun. Once you do get to the bottom, you have to climb back up, which I knew was going to be challenge, as I literally have no arm strength at all. This was my first time rock climbing, so I did want to try it, however I really did have a difficult time getting back up the wall. I felt bad for the worker at the top holding the rope, as he basically did the bulk of the work for me. I need to hit the gym and start lifting weights when I get home because it was just sad on my part.
Then, it was time for horseback riding. I haven’t done this in years so I had forgotten how relaxing and fun it was. I rode around, admiring the views and even got the horse up to a nice brisk trot a few times, which added some extra thrill to the riding. The horse riding portion of the tour stopped at the river, where we were going to start the white water rafting. Due to my extremely weak arm strength, I was relieved to know that I did not have to pair up with someone else on my tour. We had professionals that sat in the back to help us paddle. I honestly think I did more damage than help, so he said I could just hold my paddle if I wanted. Ha, my poor, weak arms.
There were relaxing moments where we just paddled down the river, but then we would get to some more intense areas where we were hurtling down, knocking into rocks and almost tipping over! It was so exhilarating. A few others flipped over, but we managed to stay upright. At one point we stopped and got a break to swim around and even got to swing off a Tarzan rope into the water.
Afterwards, it was time to relax from a thrilling morning. First, I went into a sauna and then I was lead to a river where I had volcanic mud painted on me. I got to lay out in the sun as I let my mud work its wonders. You had the option to rinse it off in an outdoor shower or by swimming in the river. Of course I was jumping in the river! My skin felt incredibly soft and smooth once the mud was washed off. Then, I went into hot springs for some added leisure. I was absolutely starving by the end of it all, so I was happy that lunch was a buffet. Needless to say, I stocked up my plate.
I have never done a tour like this before. Usually, I have everything spread out and do one thing a day, so I was glad that I did this combo tour. If I hadn’t, I would not have had time during my trip to do all of these fun things. I got to take part in both adrenaline rush activities and pampering. I will be doing a lot more combo tours in the future, they are definitely a great option when you have time constraints.
**Thank you Go Adventures for providing my tour. All opinions are my own.
